July Middle-East Adventure Reading List

Cover of July Middle-East Adventure Reading List by Tizi Cozy Corner

Riveting spicy Reads with a fascinating Middle-East setting to fight the hot weather dreaming of mysteries, adventure and romance!😽✨🧞‍♀️

πŸ˜€πŸ˜½
Good morning, everyone, and welcome back to the Cozy Corner!

We are officially in the golden heart of midsummer here in the Northern Hemisphere, and as the scorching heat continues to rise across Europe, my reader’s soul naturally craves a change of scenery.
If you know my reading habits, you already know that I am a fiercely seasonal and mood-driven reader.
In the winter, I need frozen landscapes; in the summer, I want the heat. Reading about sun-drenched settings actually helps me dive deeper into the pages, making me feel completely wrapped up in the story.

Last month, we toured the sun-kissed shores of Italy together with our June reading list. Today, I want to take you with me on a whirlwind of exotic adventures, fragrant spices, vibrant colors, high-tension political intrigues, and sweet, passionate love stories!πŸ˜πŸ˜‰

To be completely honest, I am not a fan of the modern Middle East. However, the history of the ancient world up to the early 1900s is so profoundly fascinating, mysterious, and rich in transformation that it is impossible not to feel transported as if into a daydream.

When I was a little girl, my mother used to read me the magical story of Aladdin’s lamp. I still remember being utterly mesmerized by old movies featuring beautiful odalisques dancing in colorful silk veils, and later, diving all by myself into the illustrated pages of One Thousand and One Nights.

Thanks to the books I discovered last summer, I finally rediscovered those captivating scents, ancient myths, and magical colors that enchanted my childhood imagination.

| ✈️ WELCOME TO THE ARMCHAIR TRAVEL CLUB!

Our July list is divided into two exciting chapters:
  • The first features the books I read, reviewed, and fell in love with last year.

  • The second is a sneak peek into my personal wishlist—adventures ranging from the classic ruins of Greece to the majestic pyramids of Egypt, from the bustling bazaars of Turkey to the ancient sands of Persia.

🀫 P.S. A HUGE SURPRISE IS ON THE WAY! I am currently working on a very special, printable Official Reading Passport with vintage adhesive stamps so you can track your own literary journeys for the next 1 to 3 years! It will be available for download very soon, so make sure to stay tuned.

Grab a virtual glass of iced coffee, open your imagination, and let’s start our journey across the desert!

The ancient Greeks have always fascinated me as a people, both for their jaw-dropping art and their fierce sportsmanship. This book perfectly encompasses both, and the investigative story is incredibly engaging.

Although the book is perfectly readable as a standalone, it belongs to a trilogy, and number 2 is definitely sitting at the top of my wishlist for the coming weeks!

NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STARS by Deanna Raybourn book review.

I really loved this book! Just like the previous one, it is not centered on romance, but the gripping espionage plot will largely satisfy your thirst for pure adventure. Plus, you'll meet one of the major characters from "City of Jasmine" again!

BLOGGER'S NOTE: Goodreads doesn't actually mark this as an official sequel to the *City of Jasmine* series, but if you read them, you'll immediately realize they are deeply connected. Of course, each novel is easily readable as a standalone, so you don't have to worry if you skipped the previous one!

Even though I am a fairly schematic and seasonal reader in my choices (always tracking the weather and holidays to match my mood!), I absolutely love to occasionally break the mold and explore genres outside my usual comfort zone.
πŸ‘‰ High fantasy is definitely new territory for me, but I've learned that every great recommendation list needs a touch of something magical—whether it’s paranormal, magical realism, or a stunning fantasy like this one!

And honestly, what is more deeply fascinating than a dark, twisted reimagining of the "Arabian Nights"? Being a retelling, it offers the perfect balance of a nostalgic return to our childhood origins, but with a thrilling, modern twist. Would you dare to step into the Sandsea and try this magical adventure with me?

Historical figures deeply fascinate us because they've left an indelible mark on the world.
Centuries later, we still find ourselves admiring their ability to shape their own destiny and the absolute tenacity with which they fought for it.

When the historical figure in question is a woman, we know her path was infinitely more challenging, dangerous, and restrictive than that of any man of her era. I chose this captivating book exclusively because, let's be honest, sometimes we all just want to get lost in a lighter, intensely romantic read. I love experiencing the butterfly-inducing journey of falling in love alongside the protagonist, discovering that deep complicity with someone who ultimately becomes your other half.

However, romance novels focused solely on love triangles and sweet talk are simply not for me. I always crave that underlying sense of tension, high-stakes danger, and mystery! That is why I love stories where schemes, secrets, and dangerous lies intertwine with loyalty, truth, and a fresh, burgeoning passion. If you are looking for the ultimate beach read that combines ancient tombs, shadowy conspiracies, and heavy romance, pack this one in your beach bag right away!

The absolute main reason I fell in love with the premise of this book is the incredible investigative duo.
We have a British woman and a local Ottoman magistrate—two completely opposite worlds, cultures, and mindsets coming together. Instead of being on different sides of a historical barrier, they choose to trust each other, collaborate, and solve the crime as equals!

As a series reader, I know that many of you will deeply appreciate this unique, "mixed" detective couple just as much as I do.
Plus, word on the street is that there’s a lovely, subtle touch of slow-burn romance developing between them across the pages! If you are tired of the usual tropes and want a rich, multi-cultural historical mystery with immense atmospheric depth, this series starter deserves a spot on your summer list right away.

FOR THE WINNER by Emily Hauser on Goodreads.

You might wonder why I chose book #2 of the "Golden Apple Trilogy" instead of starting from the beginning. Well, the answer comes straight from my sporty, competitive heart!

Each novel in this trilogy is dedicated to a powerful woman of myth; book #1 focuses on Helen of Troy—the most beautiful. While her story is undoubtedly interesting and I will likely read it one day, the heroine who truly stole my attention was Atalanta. She was an incredibly agile, lightning-fast hunter who famously challenged her male suitors to a footrace, and she was the only woman daring enough to join the quest for the Golden Fleece!

As a highly athletic woman myself, this deeply resonated with me. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved standing my ground and challenging the boys in high-energy running games where physical skill and speed were put to the test. I carried that fierce, competitive spirit into my adult life, practicing Kung-Fu and Kickboxing for more than 15 years!

Choosing this book was a matter of instant connection: Atalanta is the ultimate heroine I can truly identify with, admire, and fiercely cheer for.
If you love fast-paced mythological retellings with a badass female lead, you need to add this to your list!

THE PORTA AUREA by Eileen Stephenson on Goodreads.

I chose to close this summer recommendation list with a powerful biographical fiction because figures like Anna Dalassena carry an extraordinary, haunting lessons.
I wanted to highlight not only her fierce resilience and caparbietΓ  but also a harsher truth: every great victory in history demands a devastating price.

Women like Anna achieved immense power and left an indelible mark on the world, but both she and the other figures we explored had to face catastrophic sacrifices and heartbreak along the way.
It makes you wonder—is it truly worth it? Perhaps the ultimate question we must ask ourselves is not what we are willing to "do" to reach our goals, but rather how much, and whom, we are willing to "lose". In the end, it is often this terrifying weight of potential loss that stops human beings from chasing their ultimate dreams.

A deeply moving, high-stakes read that will linger in your mind long after the final page!

Along the way, two gripping love stories will restore serenity where it was long lost.
